Reinhart is proud to play a role in the fight against hunger in the greater Ann Arbor area and Washtenaw County. The Charles Reinhart Company held a food drive today at our December All Company Meeting. Agents and staff were asked to bring donations of non-perishable food items, such as: rice, dry beans, cereal, granola bars and soup.

Our generous agents and staff donated 1,188 lbs of food in addition to $50 to Ann Arbor’s Food Gatherers. According to Food Gatherers, our donation will be able to provide over 1,300 meals to families throughout the greater Ann Arbor area.

Reinhart’s South Office – 500 East Eisenhower Parkway, Suite 200 – is hosting an Art & Craft Fair on Friday, November 18 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Proceeds from the Art & Craft Fair will go to the Pat Williams Memorial Fund, a Fund established to care for and support Pat and her family during her terminal illness. “The Fund” has also provided meals and good cheer to south office agents who have found themselves in the hospital, sick, injured or caring for a relative.

The Fund has previously donated to the Caring Bridge Website. The agents of the Reinhart Office have chosen Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children, as the recipient of charitable contributions from The Fund in 2012.

The Reinhart South Office Art & Craft Fair will feature glass work; fine art paints; note cards; herbs and spices; jewelry and hair accessories; water colors; crochet pieces; Christmas ornaments and much more. In addition, there will also be a raffle for a Coach purse.

Reinhart kicked-off our 16th Annual Coat Drive on Tuesday, November 1st with the goal of collecting more than 1,500 adult and children’s coats. Through the month of November, we will be collecting new and gently used winter coats at all of the Charles Reinhart Sales Offices as well as all Sunday Open Houses.

Capitol Cleaners, Chelsea Cleaners, Gold Bond Cleaners and Forbes Cleaners have graciously donated their services to professionally clean the coats before they are donated to more than 20 local agencies.

Over our 15-year history, Reinhart has collected more than 14,500 coats, all of which have been donated to agencies in our community. The need for winter coats, especially for children, continues to be great. The 16th Annual Coat Drive hopes to help fill that need in our community as the weather begins to get colder.

For more information about the 16th Annual Coat Drive, please contact Megan Crosbie, Marketing Coordinator at (734) 669-5906 or mcrosbie@reinhartrealtors.com.

The Charles Reinhart Company has a long history of providing support to charitable organizations, including Food Gatherers.

Food Gatherers, founded in 1988 by Ann Arbor’s own Zingerman’s Delicatessen, is Michigan’s first food rescue program and has grown to be the primary emergency food distributor in Washtenaw County. By reducing food waste through gathering and distributing perishable and non-perishable food, coordinating with other hunger relief providers and developing new food resources, Food Gatherers strives to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community.

Where does all the food come from?
Food Gatherers collects food from more than 300 sources including restaurants, food wholesalers like Gordon Food Service and food retailers like Busch’s Fresh Food Markets and Trader Joe’s. An association with the Food Bank Council of Michigan connects Food Gatherers to statewide food donations and through Feeding America – the national network of food banks – Food Gatherers is connected to larger corporate donors such as Kraft, ConAgra and Kellogg. In addition, several people and organizations, like the Charles Reinhart Company, donate canned items, food from gardens, dry goods and monetary donations.

Where does the food go?
Providing enough food for more than 10,000 meals a day, Food Gatherers delivers food to more than 160 community programs. Ozone House, Corner Health Center, Dawn Farms, Saline Social Services and SOS Community Services are just a few examples of local agencies receiving food from Food Gatherers.

How successful is Food Gatherers?
In the first year of operation, with only one staff person, Food Gatherers transported about 2,400 pounds of food. Today, Food Gatherers has a large warehouse, several staff members and countless volunteers that provide 8 tons (16,000 pounds) of food per day! Since 1988, Food Gatherers has distributed more than 40 million pounds of food throughout Washtenaw County.

How can I get involved?
Volunteering opportunities at Food Gatherers are very hands-on. Contact the Food Gatherers Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@foodgatherers.org or (734) 761-2796 for more information about an enriching volunteer experience.
