Purchasing a home is a very special and significant time in a person’s life. Whether you are invited to a housewarming party or visiting someone’s new home for the first time, it can be challenging to find the perfect housewarming gift. Below is a list of the top 5 affordable and practical gifts for friends, family or a client.

  1. Plant or Flowers. Plants and flowers make a great housewarming gift because they bring life to a new home. A Japanese Bonsai Tree is a great choice since it is believed to bring luck and happiness to the owner.
  2. Doormat. A doormat is a practical gift for every homeowner. Even better is a customized doormat with their name or favorite sport’s team.
  3. Change of Address Labels. Personalized change of address labels are the perfect gift, especially for someone who will mail thank you cards after a housewarming party.
  4. Dish Towels. Both practical and affordable, dish towels are a fun way to dress-up a kitchen.
  5. Gift Certificate. A gift card is something every new homeowner will appreciate. Stores like Target and Downtown Home & Garden are great choices.

“Michigan’s manufacturing economy tends to go into recession faster and earlier than the rest of the country, but comes out faster, too,” said Brian J. Connor, the Financial Editor for The Detroit News in an article on September 22.

We’ve been witnessing the truth of this statement in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County for the past couple of years as the local economy has moved ahead of the country. The Big Three auto companies are projecting a strong 4th quarter. The ripple effect of their influence throughout southeastern Michigan positively impacts our consumer confidence.

We’re also different because of the Herculean effort of local organizations like Ann Arbor Spark and The University of Michigan, who sprang into action very early to reverse the tide and bring jobs back to our area. There’s a buzz in Washtenaw County that can’t be quieted by bad economic news elsewhere because we know we’re ahead of the curve now.

The Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County real estate market has been a part of the improving local economy. July and August home sales were the best in 3 years. Average sale prices are tending upward, and mortgage interest rates are at record lows.
