Built in 1971, Rutherford Pool was designed to last for 25 years. Over the years, the pool has had several repairs that have stretched the life of the facility to 40 years. Unfortunately, the list of repairs is beyond what is financially feasible. In order to save Rutherford Pool, a new pool must be built.

The Friends of Rutherford Pool are tirelessly working to raise the money needed to save Rutherford Pool. With the City of Ypsilanti’s endorsement, the Friends have applied for a $300,000 matching grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. To qualify, the Friends need to raise the remaining balance of $300,000.

Last week the Friends of Rutherford Pool raised an additional $12,000 at a fundraiser hosted by Eastern Michigan University President Sue Martin. They are now a third of the way to raising the remaining balance of $300,000. In order to reach their deadline, the Friends must raise $20,000 by Friday, September 30 for the matching grant. If the Friends of Rutherford Pool are unable to raise the funds needed to rebuild the pool, Rutherford Pool will close at the end of the summer.

The Charles Reinhart Company is proud to support the Friends of Rutherford Pool.

To learn more about Rutherford Pool or to make a donation visit their website or call (734) 482-4401.
