  1. Give your forwarding address to the post office 2-4 weeks prior to the move.
  2. Notify your charge cards, magazine subscriptions, and bank of the change of address.
  3. Develop a list of friends, relatives, and business colleagues who need to be notified of the move.
  4. Arrange to have utilities disconnected at your old home and connected at your new one.
  5. Cancel the newspaper.
  6. Check insurance coverage for moved items. Usually movers only cover what they pack.
  7. Have a “first open” box with the things you’ll need most– toilet paper, soap, trash bags, scissors, hammer, screwdriver, pencils, paper, cups, plates, water, snacks, and toothpaste.
  8. Clean out appliances and prepare the for moving, if applicable.
  9. Note the weight of the goods you’ll have moved, since long-distance moves are usually billed according to weight. Watch for movers that use excessive padding to add weight.
  10. Check with your condo or co-op about restrictions on use of the elevator or particular exits.

That’s what the Fed’s Policy Statement proclaimed on August 9, 2011. Although the statement was rather downbeat on the economy and no hints of a QE3 on the horizon, they extended their current mantra of keeping lower rates for an “extended period” of time.

Because the Fed will keep the Fed Funds Rates at 0% for the next two years, home rates are not likely to shoot up either, but at the same time that doesn’t mean that home loan rates are going to get much lower. Should the current rise in Core CPI continue, currently at 1.6% year over year…rates (including home loan rates) will have to gradually rise as well.

All in all, now is a great time to purchase or refinance a home with unprecedented low rates readily available.

In most cities, yes!

According to Trulia’s second quarter Rent vs. Buy index, Americans in 39 of the country’s 50 largest cities have found that it is cheaper to buy a home than rent one. Trulia, an independent real estate advertising and search website, compared the cost of buying and renting a two-bedroom apartment, condo, or town home in the 50 largest cities in the county.

Compared to the previous quarter, buying a home has become more affordable than renting. Rising rents, falling home prices, and low mortgage rates have all contributed to home ownership making more financial sense in most areas of the country, according to Trulia.

Where It’s Cheapest to Buy vs. Rent:

The following is a list of the top 12 cities where it’s cheapest to buy a home than rent.

  1. Las Vegas, NV
  2. Phoenix, AZ
  3. Arlington, TX
  4. Fresno, CA
