Over 40 years later, Earth Day is now celebrated in more than 175 counties as a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment.

- Plant a Tree. Planting a tree improves our environment, enhances our quality of life and improves our health. Lowe’s is celebrating Earth Day by giving away one million trees on Saturday, April 23rd. Visit your local Lowe’s store to get yours.
- Ditch the Plastic. Millions of plastic water bottles end up in landfills daily. Instead of buying plastic bottles of water, drink from reusable bottles.
- Use Alternate Transportation. The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) is a wonderful local public transit system for the greater Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti area. For more information about the AATA or to view their bus schedule, visit their website.
- Paper or Plastic? Neither! Over 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide every year. It is estimated that less then 3% of plastic bags are recycled. Instead of picking paper or plastic, bring your own reusable bags when grocery shopping. Several stores, such as: Target and CVS offer discounts for bringing your own grocery bags.
- Recycle. Since 1960, the amount of waste generated by a single person has nearly double.
