Agents gather the coats as the community donates. Washable coats are laundered at home by Reinhart agents or staff. Coats that require dry cleaning are taken to local dry cleaning companies who have donated their services.

The clean coats are then sorted and distributed. Where? Requests come in daily form local agencies such as: St. Andrews Church ( their breakfast program feeds local shelter residents), Carrot Way ( associated with Food Gatherers program), Washtenaw Community Services, Shelter Assocation of Washtenaw, St. Louis Center, and the Salvation Army.

Due to the great need, and loss of some local charitable groups that distributed the gathered coats last year, we have even been receiving calls directly from local schools and individuals looking for winter wear.

So far the North office has distributed 11 coats to Carrot Way, 10 to St. Andrews, 16 to Washtenaw Community Services, and 8 to the Salvation Army.

There is a great need remaining for infant and extra large sized ( 14-18) childrens’ coats, and adult coats sized from XL to XXL.

So, if you have not cleaned out the closet and brought in your unneeded coats, please drop them off at one of our Reinhart offices or with an agent holding a Sunday open house in your neighborhood. If you need a coat picked up, Susan Schmunk, who has spearheaded the drive at the Plymouth road office will either pick up your coat or arrange a pick up with one of our agents. Call (734) 747-7777 if you have a coat to donate that needs a ride to our office, or Susan’s cell (734) 476-9532.

Thank you for your support.
